Cambridge SkillsTap's advisory board provides independant and objective guidance to Cambridge SkillsTap's executive members. The advisory board have been with the organisation as it has evolved and are:
Walter Herriot
Walter Herriot OBE, has been the Managing Director of St John’s Innovation Centre Ltd since 1990. The Innovation Centre, based in Cambridge, is regarded as a model for incubators, particularly those linked to Universities, both nationally and internationally. Prior to running the Centre Walter spent 18 years as a Manager for Barclays Bank, and was then Corporate Finance Director for Coopers and Lybrand in East Anglia.
Walter has been a member of the SBS National Council, the CBI SME Council, and the Operations Steering Committee of the Greater Cambridge Partnership. Walter was acting director of Cambridge University's Entrepreneurship Centre for 6 months in 2000 pending a full time appointment and recently chaired the successful bid for the SBS franchise for Cambridgeshire. In 1999 Walter was awarded an OBE for services to businesses in the East of England and in 2002 was the Cambridge Evening News "Businessman of the Year".
Peter Hewkin
Dr. Peter Hewkin, Chief Executive of the Cambridge Network, was previously CEO of CEST (Centre for the Exploitation of Science and Technology), where he created the collaborative advantage formula, bringing together cross-industry consortia to support uptake of new, technology-enabled business.
Before that he worked with Scientific Generics Limited in Cambridge as Director of the Business Innovation division and with Asea Brown Boveri's factory automation division in Heidelberg.
He gained his doctorate in Engineering from the University of Oxford and also an MBA (with distinction) from INSEAD in France.
'I am excited by the prospect of helping companies in the Cambridge region collaborate in order to leverage their resources in new ways and sustain competitive advantage on a global scale, ' he said.
Ian Mather
Ian Mather is the Senior Office Partner at Eversheds Cambridge office. Eversheds is an international law firm (www.eversheds.com). Ian has worked in the employment law field since 1985. Nationally, he has responsibility for Eversheds’ HR Consultancy and Training business.
Ian represents a wide range of employers in various industry sectors including high tech, pharmaceuticals, education, health and the police. His work involves issues including sex, race and disability discrimination.
